When Eating Healthy Turns Sour

ORTHO= correct OREXIS=appetite ORTHOREXIA= correct appetite. Orthorexia is an ever increasing mental illness wherein the quest to be healthy goes too far resulting in a decline of wellbeing. Those with orthorexia become obsessed with eating "pure" + "clean" foods. While not necessarily preoccupied with weight loss, rather one becomes consumed with achieving the perfect diet. Eating "clean" foods gives an orthorexic a euphoric sense of greatness and pride in their ability to stick to a rigid dietary regime. Control is an orthorexics favorite word. Diligently counting each grain of rice and perfectly measuring out the exact portion of fats makes everything in life seem better. I associate it w

I had the honor of talking with Degreed Sports Nutritionist Kyla Chanelle, on the dangers of dipping into energy deficit. She works 1:1 with athletes workout and fuel smarter to avoid or heal from RED-S and consequently for many women, get their period back. Breaking Up With Bingeing

I used to binge. So I would restrict my calories even more cause I though that I ate too much. Little did I know that my binging was BECAUSE I wasn't eating enough. Bingeing is a RESULT of restriction according to Binge Eating Recovery coach Natalie Zises. Unfortunately many women do what I did... restrict or diet even more after binges which worsens the problem. What's one of the CRAZIEST things you used to think about in regards to health + nutrition that you look at novas being WAY wrong? This was the first question that I asked Sierra Wright, Registered Holistic Nutritional Practitioner in our conversation on how the HEALTH + WELLNESS industry can be one of the BIGGEST promoters of disordered eating. Sierra shared a bit about her story of getting down to a very unhealthy weight, suffering from a mired of digestive issues and having Doctors + Naturopaths tells her that the answer was to restrict more foods... the opposite of what someone with an eating disorder needs to do. We mentioned how eating a variety of foods and eating MORE can heal your

How Casey Got her Period Back by Going "All In"

If there's one thing I wish someone told me during my years of gym classes, cross-fit, "clean" eating, cleansing and ordering low fat vegan ice cream it would be this: ~YOUR PERIOD IS THE MORE IMPORTANT THAN 6-PACK ABS~ I went 11 years without a period and thought nothing of it, in fact I liked it cause I didn't have to "deal" with tampons , acne, bloating, cramps or PMS. What I didn't know at that time was that there was a trade off to my teenage years without a pimple which I would one day severely regret. Amenorrhea, lack of menses, puts a women at high risk for: ~Osteoporosis ~Cardiovascular Disease ~Neurodegenerative Disease ~Infertility ~Vaginal Dryness/ Vaginal Atrophy ~Low/No Libido
