Gaining weight is by far the #1 thing that scares people about recovery.
I myself resisted recovery for many years because I could not come to terms with seeing my body change and "losing" my "athletic" body. I would come up with a mired of (unrealistic) awful things that would happen to me when I lost my thigh gap.
I put my thoughts BEFORE gaining weight next to my thoughts/the reality of what happened AFTER I gained weight in the table below.
None of my previous fears of what weight gain would do to me came true. In fact I found that there were so many benefits to weight gain that I was very frustrated that I did not take the plunge and gain weight sooner.
I put together the top 8 benefits that I experienced after gaining weight.
*Note: I did not just gain 5 lbs. Throughout my whole eating disorder journey, from my lowest to highest, I gained 50 lbs. I had a huge change in my body size and shape that needed up being a huge blessing. All of these benefits are when I finally reached my highest, most healthy weight.
