Whole Foods vs Processed in Recovery

Can you recover while eating all Whole Foods?

Do you have to incorporate processed food into your diet? If so, how much?

Should I stop eating fruits + veggies and instead focus on processed food?

Every person has their own journey of healing their relationship with food. This video is me sharing my experience and what I think about this topic but please understand that your situation may and is different and so you must truly access what will be right for you in recovery and please consult your doctor or dietician regarding this topic.

With that said I think that there is important role for both processed and Whole Foods in recovery to help one both neurally re-wire as well and nutritionally rehabilitate. I personally focused on eating good quality nutrient dense foods in my recovery-- paté, bone marrow, lamb chops, raw milk, pasture raised eggs, salmon, sardines, broccoli, asparagus, dates, avocados, quinoa, etc. These foods helped my body restore its very depleted levels of nutrients from my many years of being vegan.

Now with that said I also ate processed food and in general was very very open to any and all foods which was a huge part of the recovery process and necessary to my full recovery. I have tried doing an all "clean" recovery and well just the fact that I called it a "clean" recovery goes to show that it was not recovery at all. I still had a lot of fears and controlled my food by making sure it was of a certain quality. So this time I had all my fear foods-- Oreos, French fries, cereal, muffins, cake, ice cream, fried calamari, tempura sushi etc.

The solution for me was to:

1. Eat nutritious foods

2.Eat fun foods that scarred the S*** outta me

I am happy with the balance that I found and the freedom that having BOTH allowed me.
